The mandate of The Ombuds Office is to receive, investigate and seek to resolve complaints from Students and Employees related to all areas of operation of the University.

The Ombuds seeks resolution of complaints in a timely and effective manner, ideally at the lowest level.

It is the job of the Ombuds to assist in resolving problems faced by members of the University community, including students, faculty, support staff and administrators, by offering an impartial and confidential alternative. The Ombudsperson does not advocate for any side in a dispute - but rather seeks to encourage fair resolutions. This is done in one of several ways: In many cases, students can resolve a matter after options are discussed, including ways to approach the problem. In others, the Ombuds might provide assistance by facilitating communication to promote better understanding. In some cases, the Ombuds will investigate the matter and, although the Office has no authority to issue binding decisions, provide a recommendation of what the Ombuds believes to be a fair resolution.
This web site is designed to be a source of information, both about the role of the Ombuds Office and how to approach problems. Click here for more information about the Ombuds Office and procedures. If you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact the Ombudsperson.

Appointments
Appointments can be made directly to the Ombuds via the NUGSS office, phone (960-6427) or email (nugss-ombuds@unbc.ca). It is important for you to know that though UNBC takes the standard precautions to ensure the confidentiality of your email, it is generally considered to be a less secure way of communicating than a phone call or personal appointment.
